Toronto Zoo

July 25, 2004

Today we went to the Toronto Zoo (link, map). This was our most ambitious use of public transportation in Toronto yet. It took us more than an hour to get there by train and bus. Emelia took advantage of the extra time.

The zoo was pretty nice. Everything was spread out. That can be nice or not, depending on how you look at it. We were looking at it from the standpoint of pushing an infant around in an umbrella stroller. Chloe loved looking at all the animals. Well, everybody did, but Chloe was particularly pleased.

They had an area called Splash Island, which was basically just a water park in the middle of the zoo. Emelia had a blast there (Chloe slept through it). We went in the middle of the day because if we waited much later than 4:00pm, we were afraid that it would be too cold... in July! As Texans, we relished the mild weather.

The best story of the day wasn't related to the zoo at all. On the way there, Emelia befriended our bus driver. So on the way back, when we got to the bus a little early, he let Emelia play bus driver. She got to hand out the transfers to the other families getting on the bus. She was so excited, she decided that she wanted to be a bus driver when she grows up.
